- Confirm the available space on each volume using the command “df –g <volname>”
- Confirm the dedupe savings on each volume using the command “df –s <volname>” and/or “sis status /vol/<volname>”.
- Confirm that the volume’s current utilization can accommodate the additional data blocks.
- Pause snapmirror jobs by entering the “#” in the snapmirror.conf file on the destination system.
- Resize both prod and COB volumes according to dedup savings.
- Disable dedupe (ASIS) on each volume using the command sis off /vol/<volname>
- Enter privileged command mode using the command “priv set diag”
- Begin the process of un-deduping each volume using the command “sis undo /vol/<volname>”
- Monitor processor utilization with the command “sis status /vol/<volname>.
- Repeat for additional volumes.
- Confirm that dedupe has been removed by comparing the output of df –g before and after the undedupe process.
- Confirm that dedupe has been disabled by running the command “sis status”.
- Confirm volume utilization by running the “df –g <volname>” command.
- To stop undedup “sis stop /vol/path”.

Maximum NDMP sessions for Data ONTAP 8.x
Considerations when using NDMP
You have to take into
account a list of considerations when starting the NDMP service on your
storage system.
• Data ONTAP supports a
maximum of 16 concurrent backups, restores, or both on a local tape
drive.
This includes backups
initiated by NDMP as well as by the storage system’s dump, restore,
and
smtape commands.
However, a storage system
supports a maximum of 32 dump or restore sessions and 32 smtape
sessions.
• NDMP supports a maximum of 128 concurrent sessions on NearStore
and 40 on other systems.
The
following table defines the maximum number of NDMP sessions for storage systems
running Data ONTAP 8.x:

NetApp basic Volume and Vfiler commands
Here are the commands for Volume and Vfiler level
vol create Volume1 aggr1 680g

CF\VIF Failover test - NetApp Filers.
Usually for a new Filers we will be testing CF\VIF takeover test before getting that BOX to Production...now here let's see procedure.
CF Takeover:
1. Login to Netapp CLI using your Login credentials.
2. Turn off SNMP and Autosupport before do this
--> options snmp.enable off
--> options autosupport.enable off
3. Before starting the test make sure "Takeover NODE is UP"
--> cf status
4. Now we need to run takeover command
--> cf takeover
5. While the node is trying to do takeover - try to ping other node...finally it will be giving alert that "Takeover is sucess"
6. Check the status by
--> cf monitor
7. Once the node is ready to giveback
--> cf status (tells us if node is ready to giveback or not)
--> cf giveback
8. Then check the "cf status" node should show as UP
9. ON - SNMP and Autosupport
--> options snmp.enable on
--> options autosupport.enable on
10. To get the LOGS go to /etc/messages - and get the Failover logs.
VIF Failover:
1. See the status of interface
--> ifgrp status
2. If above cmd shows 1 - up and 1- down, note the name of non-active(which dhows down) interface and test it
3. ifgrp favor e2a
4. go to /etc/messages to collect the Failover logs.

Basic commands for NetApp filers.
Below are some basic commands which we use in our day-to-day operations.
- sysconfig -a : shows hardware configuration with more verbose information
- sysconfig -d : shows information of the disk attached to the filer
- version : shows the netapp Ontap OS version.
- uptime : shows the filer uptime
- dns info : this shows the dns resolvers, the no of hits and misses and other info
- nis info : this shows the nis domain name, yp servers etc.
- rdfile : Like "cat" in Linux, used to read contents of text files/
- wrfile : Creates/Overwrites a file. Similar to "cat > filename" in Linux
- aggr status : Shows the aggregate status
- aggr status -r : Shows the raid configuration, reconstruction information of the disks in filer
- aggr show_space : Shows the disk usage of the aggreate, WAFL reserve, overheads etc.
- vol status : Shows the volume information
- vol status -s : Displays the spare disks on the filer
- vol status -f : Displays the failed disks on the filer
- vol status -r : Shows the raid configuration, reconstruction information of the disks
- df -h : Displays volume disk usage
- df -i : Shows the inode counts of all the volumes
- df -Ah : Shows "df" information of the aggregate
- license : Displays/add/removes license on a netapp filer
- maxfiles : Displays and adds more inodes to a volume
- aggr create : Creates aggregate
- vol create <volname> <aggrname> <size> : Creates volume in an aggregate
- vol offline <volname> : Offlines a volume
- vol online <volname> : Onlines a volume
- vol destroy <volname> : Destroys and removes an volume
- vol size <volname> [+|-]<size> : Resize a volume in netapp filer
- vol options : Displays/Changes volume options in a netapp filer
- qtree create <qtree-path> : Creates qtree

- ndmpcopy <src-path> <dst-path> : Initiates ndmpcopy
- ndmpd status : Displays status of ndmpd
- ndmpd killall : Terminates all the ndmpd processes.
- ifconfig : Displays/Sets IP address on a network/vif interface
- vif create : Creates a VIF (bonding/trunking/teaming)
- vif status : Displays status of a vif
- netstat : Displays network statistics
- sysstat -us 1 : begins a 1 second sample of the filer's current utilization (crtl - c to end)
- nfsstat : Shows nfs statistics
- nfsstat -l : Displays nfs stats per client
- nfs_hist : Displays nfs historgram
- statit : beings/ends a performance workload sampling [-b starts / -e ends]
- stats : Displays stats for every counter on netapp. Read stats man page for more info
- ifstat : Displays Network interface stats
- qtree stats : displays I/O stats of qtree
- environment : display environment status on shelves and chassis of the filer
- storage show <disk|shelf|adapter> : Shows storage component details
- snapmirror intialize : Initialize a snapmirror relation
- snapmirror update : Manually Update snapmirror relation
- snapmirror resync : Resyns a broken snapmirror
- snapmirror quiesce : Quiesces a snapmirror bond
- snapmirror break : Breakes a snapmirror relation
- snapmirror abort : Abort a running snapmirror
- snapmirror status : Shows snapmirror status
- lock status -h : Displays locks held by filer
- sm_mon : Manage the locks
- storage download shelf : Installs the shelf firmware
- software get : Download the Netapp OS software
- software install : Installs OS
- download : Updates the installed OS
- cf status : Displays cluster status
- cf takeover : Takes over the cluster partner
- cf giveback : Gives back control to the cluster partner
- cf disable : To turn of takeover alerts.
- cf enable : To turn on takeover alerts
- reboot : Reboots a filer

Renaming Server(Host) name in Clariion (CX) Arrays!!
Following is the procedure to rename the existing server or host name in CX with Different Flare code versions.
I. Follow these steps for CX series, CX3 series, CX4 series with FLARE Release 28 only
Note: This process can be done non-disruptively!
-Right-click the array icon and select Connectivity Status.
-Highlight the entries that must be changed and Select the Info button. (Record current initiator settings.)
-Select the Group Edit button.
-Find the HBA WWNs on the left window and move them to the right window.
-Make any necessary changes for the initiator settings to match what was recorded in Step 2.
-Select the New Host radio button.
-Type in the correct host name and IP address.
-Click OK and then confirm the success.
-Close Connectivity Status.
-Right-click the array icon and select Update Now.
Note: If the changes do not take place right away, you may have to restart the Management Server. See solution emc99876.
The host name should now show correctly!
II. Follow these steps for the CX4 series with FLARE Release 29 only
Note: This process can be done non-disruptively!
-Right-click the array icon and select Connectivity Status.
-Select the Host Initiators tab then select the host.
-Highlight the host that must be changed and Select the Edit button. (Record current initiator settings.)
-Select the Edit button.
-Check the HBA WWNs on the top window.
-Make any necessary changes for the initiator settings to match what was recorded in Step 2.
-Select the New Host radio button.
-Type in the correct host name and IP address.
-Click OK and then confirm the success.
-Close Connectivity Status.
-Right-click the array icon and select Update Now.
Note: If the changes do not take place right away, you may have to restart the Management Server. See solution emc99876.
The host name should now show correctly!
III. Follow these steps for the CX4 series with FLARE Release 30 only
Note: This process can be done non-disruptively!
-Select the array in the system pulldown menu top left of the Unisphere screen.
-On the left pain under System Management select Storage Sytem Connectivity Status
-Select the Host Initiator Tab then select the host.
-Highlight the host the entries that must be changed and Select the Edit button. (Record current initiator settings.)
-Find the HBA WWNs on the top window.
-Make any necessary changes for the initiator settings to match what was recorded in Step 2.
-Select the New Host radio button.
-Type in the correct host name and IP address.
-Click OK and then confirm the success.
-Close Connectivity Status.
-Right-click the array icon and select Update Now.
Note: If the changes do not take place right away, you may have to restart the Management Server. See solution emc99876.

Commands for installing Disk Shelf Firmware [NetApp]
1.Download the Zip file and extract it on Filer which you want to upgrade firmware (example: netapp01)
2.priv set advanced
3.storage download shelf (by typing this command and hitting enter it will prompt for "Are you sure you want to upgrade all the disk shelves" - If you wish to upgrade all the shelves go ahead and type "Y" or else if you need any particular shelf type following command
4.storage download shelf 0b.shelf4 (0b.shelf4 = adapter and shelf number)
while upgrading the shelf will be going to unknown state for few seconds, don't worry at that time it will come to "ok" state within few seconds.
to verify the upgraded firmware type this command " sysconfig -v"
All this you can run through CLI, You can also find this procedure in now.netapp.com
